Eat and smile confidently after dental implant treatment!
With cosmetic dental treatments such as dental implants, tooth whitening and veneers becoming more and more a daily part of our vocabulary, it has been questioned why this is happening. Could it purely be that ‘perfection’ is being touted daily in the media, that our obsession with celebrity is driving our lives to the degree that we can’t even think for ourselves?
It would be easy to be dismissive and think that this may be the case, but as some of these procedures involve a certain degree of financial commitment, why, especially in these difficult times, do we see an ever increasing number of people opting for them? read more…
Dental Implants Are Far More Than Just a Cosmetic Procedure
The modern dentistry procedure of placing dental implants has often be positioned, along with tooth whitening and veneers etc, as ‘cosmetic dentistry’, but is this a misleading tag for this procedure?
There is little doubt that those early procedures which fall under this tag did come about purely for cosmetic reasons. In fact, most initial cosmetic dental procedures originated from the film studios of Hollywood. Back in those days, it is safe to say that the actors and actresses of the era were not overly concerned with health issues and much alcohol and many cigarettes were consumed at that time.
This, of course, left a problem for the film producers who could see, quite plainly, how this affected the appearance of their actor’s teeth, especially when a close up featured on the screen. This led to the invention of tooth whitening and veneers in particular. read more…
New teeth in a single day using a revolutionary dental implant technique!
The staff at our practices in Harley Street, Folkestone and Peterborough are fully trained to provide the all on 4 dental implant procedure which allows a patient to have a full fixed arch of teeth in a single day.
The idea of all on 4 was designed to keep to an absolute minimum, the number of dental implants that need to be placed in a persons jaw bone. For standard implants, usually between six and ten implants are used and this can be both costly and cause quite a bit of discomfort and frustration whilst they heal.
So, how can an all on 4 implant procedure use fewer implants than a standard implant procedure? The secret is in the way that they are placed into the jaw. The front two implants are placed at the usual angle; however, the rear implants are placed into the jaw at around a 45 degree angle. The exact angle will depend on each individual patient of course. These angled implants provide an excellent bracing support which helps to spread the amount of force generated by the bridge upon the jaw. read more…
Our Harley Street Dentist Advises About All On 4 Dental Implants
All on 4 is a relatively new procedure which allows a permanent set of teeth to be fixed and which not only looks, but feels entirely natural too.
In What Way are they Different to Dentures?
Whilst dentures have to be removed for cleaning, all on 4 implants are permanently fixed in the mouth and are cleaned exactly the same as natural teeth. This makes the cleaning process much easier and without the mess that sometimes occurs with the adhesive used to hold dentures in place. As far as the all on 4 implants go, you will find that you are able to bite down with the same force that you would with your own teeth, unlike with dentures, where more care has to be taken. Many patients that have previously had dentures have reported how they are delighted to have re-discovered the joy in eating their favourite foods after having the all on 4 procedure. read more…
Typical recovery profile following implantology
Although dental implant procedures have a high success rate of over 97%, there is no getting away from the fact that having a dental implant is still a small but invasive procedure. However, despite the fact that drilling into the jaw bone may sound quite scary to the patient, as a local anaesthetic will be given beforehand, no more discomfort should be felt than during a standard filling or extraction.
Although the long term outcome will provide an excellent replacement for a lost tooth, the nature of the procedure does mean that that there will be some after effects for a short period of time, as you would expect with any form of surgery. read more…
